An excerpt of a larger dissertation unpacking the role of the territorialization of the Colorado mesas as it relates to both place and identity. This multimedia annotation of a 1988 map of the state of Colorado by the National Geographic Society juxtaposes stereotypical iconography of the American southwest with errant memories from a man who grew up amid the Rocky Mountains. This work intentionally puts in conflict the embodied experience and the textbook canon of a place, where narratives are often omitted or overlooked.
